Covaron is Awarded Phase I Funding for NSF Grant.
The National Science Foundation hereby awards a grant of $150,000 to Covaron Inc for SBIR Phase I: Chemically Bonded Ceramic Exhaust Coating project.
Covaron’s proposed thermal management coating technology will keep exhaust heat in the exhaust pipe and manifold, preventing radiation of heat energy through the pipe exterior wall. The effect on performance will include more efficient fuel burn, faster / more efficient catalytic converter performance, reduction in NOx and SOx emissions through faster light off of the catalytic converter. Additional benefits will include reducing number of vehicle parts and weight through replacement of traditional heat shielding and associated temperature control components; reducing manufacturing cost by providing a coating to the heat source (exhaust system), simplifying assembly in plant and service in the field; reducing material cost as a result of coating the inside of the exhaust as well, eliminating expensive and heavy stainless steel currently used in exhausts; eliminating other non-shielding parts used to currently manage exhaust system temperatures.
